Hello Hivers of this community! I’m here again with another recipe to share which every Filipino love to eat in any occasion and one of my favorite snacks.
Lumpia is a well-known dish or snack here in the Philippines. It can be consists of savory or sweet fillings that is wrapped in a thin crepe-like or paper-like pastry skin or what we call the lumpia wrapper. It’s a type of spring roll that can be serve fresh or deep-fried, but I prefer my lumpia to be fried.
Lumpias are often serve as appetizers in occasions like birthdays or wedding. It is also a common food that can be always take-out.
I love to experiment different fillings for a lumpia, but this time, I would share to you a very common filling for a lumpia. So, join me in my humble kitchen as I cooked and prepare this simple dish made with love.
Ingredients:
2 medium-sized carrots
2 medium-sized potatoes
1 ready-to-use pork grind meat
Cheese
2 tablespoon flour
Preparation:
In a bowl, grate the carrots and the potatoes. By doing this, you wouldn’t need to sauté it on the pan anymore because it can be easily cooked when wrapped later on.
Next is to grate also the cheese. Cheese is optional but I prefer to add it because it gives an extra flavor to our lumpia, and I didn’t add anymore salt because the cheese is a little bit salty.
Then I just used this, canned good which is a ready-to-used pork grind meat. Pork meat was really expensive here, so this recipe was a budget friendly lumpia if you are craving for one. What I like about this pork canned good is that it’s already flavorful and I didn’t add any preservatives to my recipe.
- After mixing all the ingredients, I added 2 tablespoons of flour as a binding agent to our lumpia.
Wrapping the Lumpia
Now we are ready to wrap our lumpias, this method was very easy to do. First is to put the wrapper on a clean flat surface. Then add about 1 ½ tablespoon of the lumpia mixture. Roll the wrapper and fold both sides then seal the edge with water. Repeat the process until all the lumpias are being wrapped. I made a total of 15 lumpiang shanghai for this recipe, if you want more, just double the ingredients as mentioned.
Cooking Time
In frying the lumpia, set the fire into lowest heat since the filling is not sauteed, on that process the lumpia wrapper will not cook immediately, because it’s thin so setting the fire into a heat would cook the lumpia properly. Approximately I cooked the lumpia for about 10 minutes each batch.
Then we have it my budget-friendly lumpiang shanghai. You could prepare a dipping sauce for this like ketchup but I prefer a vinegar sauce for this with a lot of onions and some pepper, salt and sugar to balance the taste.
I just cooked a very simple snack for my family. Try it now. You can add more vegetables for this lumpia recipe that I shared. Next time, I will share again another easy lumpia recipe but this time with a sweet filling.
That’s all my dear hivers of this community. Have a wonderful day! Till’ next blog 😊.
Sincerely, @saijan19
