Hello again Foodies. How are you all doing today? It was again a wonderful day to be celebrated with all the blessings and especially the foods that we partake every day. Today I decided to share a recipe of a well-known street food here in our country. We call this food as “kikiam”. There’s not english term for this food recipe, but this snacks main ingredient was a fish, I really don’t know what specific kind of fish though.

So today I just want to share a budget friendly recipe for this snack, so come and join me on my humble kitchen again as I share how I made this one.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small can of any brand of sardines

  • 2 tsp. onion powder

  • 2 tsp. pepper

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • a pinch of msg. seasoning

Preparation:

In a bowl put the sardines and mash it using a fork. Add all the ingredients as mentioned except for the flour.

We need to gradually add the flour on our mixture until the texture becomes like a dough. Rest for at least 10 minutes before molding it like a “kikiam.”

After 10 minutes, mold it like a “kikiam” with a clean hand of course. The shape is like small sausages.

After molding all the “kikiams”, I made a total of 32 pcs. for the ingredients provided, if you want more, you can double the ingredients.

Cooking Time:

In a pan, add enough oil to cook the “kikiams”. Mix it from time to time so that each side will be cooked evenly.

After 5 minutes of frying, we now have a home-made snack today. Even though the taste is a little different from the “kikiam” that we used to eat at the street, it was still tasty and delicious. I dip it into a sweet and spicy sauce.

After, having our snack, we decided to go at the market to buy some stuffs again for our mini sari-sari store. The sun was scorching that time, and my husband saw a vendor of this refreshing dessert which we call “halo-halo”, wherein there’s a lot of ingredients on it like sweetened banana, coconut meat, sago pearls and jelatin cut into cubes with a crushed iced and on top is an ube filling with leche flan. For only 45 pesos we had this refreshing dessert perfect for this hot weather that we had today in our place. Plus, there’s a milk on it making this dessert creamy it was called “halo-halo” because you have to mix this carefully before eating.

That’s all for today’s food blog my dear friends of this community. Till’ next food blog. Have a wonderful and cheerful day to everyone 😊

Sincerely, @saijan19
