This time, you won’t want to miss this dish that goes perfectly with a big bowl of rice at lunchtime. It’s my husband’s favorite—and definitely mine, too. Made with shrimp and fresh star fruit, it’s a delicious, refreshing dish. The simple ingredients and unique flavor combination are sure to win you over.
Shrimp Cooked with Star Fruit
Fresh shrimp combined with fresh star fruit is a great way to enjoy a healthy, fresh, and incredibly delicious meal at lunchtime. This dish often becomes our go-to when my husband and I are unsure what to eat. As a result, shrimp is a simple yet elegant option for a special meal.

Known as “asam udang goreng” (fried shrimp with tamarind), I’ve previously made a fresh, raw version of asam udang without cooking it. Of course, this is different—this type of asam udang is stir-fried, with the star fruit and other ingredients cooked in the stir-fry, resulting in a distinct flavor. Curious about the taste? Let’s take a look at the step-by-step preparation process.
Ingredients

11 star fruits
2 cloves of red onion
2 cloves of garlic
10 bird’s eye chilies
4 kaffir lime leaves
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 stalk of lemongrass

Result and Serving Suggestions

Serve on a serving plate, then pair with white rice. You’ll enjoy a delicious sour shrimp stir-fry. The flavor is truly unique—sour, sweet, and savory from the shrimp. I intentionally didn’t add any flavor enhancer because the shrimp already has a natural umami taste.
