Cook Sambal Balinese Tongkol Fish

Sambal is one of the most popular side dishes in Indonesia. There are many types of sambal in various regions with different ways of serving and have a variety of flavors that are spectacular in my opinion.



Hi foodie lovers never get bored to visit my post, because there are so many recipes that you have to try here. One of them is a recipe from this processed tuna, processed with simple spices. But I managed to process it into a perfect dish with a typical regional chili sauce. Of course you are already very familiar with the city of Bali, whose super natural beauty is no doubt. Now this time I will make one of the chili recipes originating from the city.




Sambal Bali Fish Tongkol

Sambal Bali has spicy, savory and sweet characteristics. Sambal Bali is identical to all ingredients steamed and then cooked in a little oil. Well the fish itself is usually fried not too dry so that the fish is more delicious when enjoyed.

Ingredients Used

500 grams of tuna
1 tablespoon of salt
1 onion
5 grams of palm sugar
20 curly red chilies
4 cloves of garlic
5 cloves of shallots
2 tomatoes




Making Procedure


Step 1


I marinate the fish with salt for about 5 minutes and then fry it in hot oil.

Step 2


While waiting for the fish to be fried, I prepare chilies, onions, and also cut tomatoes and then steam them until soft.

The fish that has been fried I back and forth, fry not too dry so that later it is not hard.

Then after the spices are steamed tunggi cool for a while then blender not too smooth.

Then saute the spices with just a little cooking oil, I added 1 tablespoon, then I added 1 lemongrass stalk.

Step 6


Cook the spices in a pan, then don't forget to cut the onion into coarse pieces, and then add palm sugar

Step 7


Add salt in the seasoning and cook until the chili releases oil. Then add the onion pieces.

After the onion starts to feel cooked and tender, add the tuna, let it soak in the seasoning for about 5 minutes, then turn off the stove and serve.

Serve the tongkol on a serving plate, this yields very much and can be eaten by a large family with a combination of warm white rice. Because sambal bali is usually enjoyed with warm white rice as a side dish. I am very happy to be able to make my own sambal at home. You know I enjoyed tuna sambal bali yesterday during a training event and I thought it was very good. That's why I really wanted to try it myself at home. And I succeeded this time, everything was very good.

The combination of tongkol with chili sauce is very unified, a little spicy savory and sweet just right not over. Most importantly, the aroma of onions makes this Balinese chili sauce even more spectacular. I loved this and everyone at home did too.

This fish recipe is yummy and spicy,for the people who are scared of spicy maybe we can cook our version that less chili. I love the recipe and might cook this without chili.

You can cook your version with non-spicy chili I think it would be better.

I would love to because I cannot eat spicy I got acid reflux.
