Did We Finally Find Another "Goldilocks" Milk for Mom's Gastric? Egg Millet Milk

Looking for the "optimal" beverage that is packed with nutrients for my mom's recovery from her last Emergency Room episode is never easy. At first we thought we found our first "Goldilocks Milk" for mom, that was made of Chinese Yam, Millet, Red Dates and Walnuts; however after taking two sittings, my mom's stomach started to reject the milk with continuous gastric every time she tried taking it.

To be honest, it was really frustrating as we wanted her to get well and not suffer with every bite, causing her traumatised with even soft food or milk.

Then it felt like the leading of God to try something—less is more.

Less ingredients, but with intentional to build strength for her.

I know it looks weird in the bowl, but we need to re-hydrate it, and I was doing this early in the morning so it is a bit blur

With certain important key points:

  • Millet: that has magnesium to calm the stomach muscles from traumatised by pain, causing spasm
  • Cordyceps flower: the fungal in the soup that helped mom to recover from trauma during last year's dad's (almost died again) incident.
  • Dried Scallop: for taste, also low in fat and some protein

Oh but the main protein wasn't from that tiny little scallop

Blending well with the soy function

It is an egg. Simple as it is, but because mom couldn't take solid eggs (though doctor said it will be good for her), I have decided to add it into the blender to make a thick egg milk so that she could have something that originally will be hard for her to digest into something that she could take

I tried it myself first for my dinner (with a off-spin reason), and it was really filling. I gave both my parents a tiny bit to try out and surprisingly, my mom's stomach didn't reject much.

Mom's Cantonese-English reply translation: So far is okay, but it's too thick and I had to add water to dilute it and have it with bread; more over I fried bee hood with Chinese cabbage (for dad)

So I tried again the next morning, and so far, by the Grace of God, seems that her stomach is doing pretty good, accepting the milk, and finally, my mom could have some proper protein that is digestible for her.

I know this is going to be a little overwhelming if taken daily, but perhaps I'll do it alternate days with different umami flavour as long as she is able to take it.

I pray that slowly but surely, she will regain strength.

About the spin-off reason:

My church was supposedly be starting our final lap of prayer and fasting (not following Lent like the Catholics) this coming Saturday with devotionals, but the LORD somehow asked me to start earlier, with liquid fast (and prayers). Perhaps HE wants me to understand how it is to take liquid for food again (after a long time) and also at the same time, giving me recipe(s) to try first hand before recommending to mom with better confidence.

Either way, her seeing me on liquid fast gives her encouragement that she is not going through this recovery alone.

And it is pretty much good for me too as I have been feeling very oddly constant hunger (perhaps of stress) due to snacking something that isn't too nourishing; so when I started this milk, I actually feel quite full a lot longer and just sipping 500ml could last me around 5-6 hours without other food. But of course, this is a little too thick, and having enough water in between is also essential.

How about you?

Would you give this milk a try? Particularly when you need a break from all the overly powering "colourful" (sometimes junk) food of spiciness, oily, and flavourful ones?

The recipe I made:

  • 50cc cup millet
  • 500ml water
  • a teaspoon worth of cordyceps flower
  • 1 dried scallop
  • 1 large egg

If you notice, this recipe seems to be all whole food and non processed. Probably the only "processed" ones were the dehydrated cordyceps flower (fungus) and the scallop.

Have fun trying out and do comment if you have done so. You can add additional salt to taste.
I personally wouldn't recommend to spoil it with sugar because it is supposed to be a healing food—and sugar is generally not the best option.
