Holla amigos! I hope your day went well and you achieved most of your goals for the day. I'm glad to share a delicious native soup known as oha. The soup is basically named after the plant Pterocarpus Mildbraedii, also known as African Rosewood Leaf.
This is a very delicious and spicy soup popular in Nigerian cuisine, particularly in the eastern part. It has lots of healthy benefits such as building muscle mass and low sodium, which is beneficial for persons with high blood pressure.
It also helps regulate blood glucose levels. Oha is one of my best local or native delicacies because of its distinct earthy flavor.
Ingredients needed to prepare Oha soup
Beef 1.5kg
Fish 1kg
Stockfish 500g
Dry fish 500g
Crayfish 300g
Palm oil 2 cooking spoons
Oziza leaf a handful
Oha leaf 500g
Salt and spices 1 tablespoon
Seasoning cubes 2
Cocoyam powder 2 satchet
Onions 2
Pepper 200g
PREPARATION
STEP 1
Wash beef thoroughly, put in a clean pot, add spices, and cook for 20 minutes.
STEP 2
Repeat the same process with the iced fish and cook separately.
STEP 3
Wash dry fish and Stockfish, and add onions and spices in a bigger pot, which would be used for the soup. Add already cooked meat and stock and allow to cook. Add palm oil, slice wash, and add oziza leaf for extra flavors.
STEP 4
Add all spices, pepper, and crayfish. Mix cocoyam in cold water and add to soup to help with its thickness. Lastly, pluck African Rosewood Leaf from its stem, wash, and add to soup. Stir and allow to simmer for 2 minutes. Our delicious Oha or African Rosewood Leaf soup is ready.
The soup came out delicious and perfect just the way I enjoy my Oha soup 👌
