Hi everyone, I've mentioned many times how much I love trying snacks, or as we usually call them, sweets, in new and unusual flavors, whether alone or with my sister. I love being able to test out flavors and see if any of them become part of my favorites. The thing is, a few days ago I saw that a candy brand that's usually salty and comes in flavors like bacon had released a sweet version. Although I'm not a fan of sweets, I was curious to try it and thought it would take months to arrive in San Juan. But to my surprise, I found it at a market, along with two other things that I couldn't resist buying.
Hola a todos, ya he mencionado muchas veces el gusto que tengo por probar snacks o, como le solemos decir, chucherías de sabores nuevos y curiosos, ya sea en solitario o con mi hermana, ya que adoro poder testear sabores y ver si alguno de esos se vuelve parte de mi lista de favoritos. La cosa es que hace unos días había visto que una marca de chucherías que suele ser salada y en sabores como tocineta había sacado al mercado una presentación dulce y, aunque no soy fan del dulce, tenía la curiosidad de probar y pensaba que tardaría meses en llegar a San Juan, pero para mi sorpresa lo conseguí en un mercado, junto con dos cositas más que no pude evitar comprar.
And this is none other than the "Jumby Rikos," but in its sweet ring format, which is visually very striking due to its potent, bright pink color, alluding to the well-known sweet riscas. The truth is, the packaging doesn't differ much from the savory version we commonly see in the market, except that this one has those pink hues and features a small dolphin as a nod to its sweetness. Likewise, as for the price, it was $0.80, a little higher than its other versions; I understand this is because it's recently new, and also because so far I've only seen it at that one store here in the city.
Y este no es otro que el "Jumby Rikos", pero en su presentación de aros dulces, el cual visualmente es muy llamativo por su potente color rosa fuerte, el cual hace alusión a las conocidas riscas dulces. La verdad, la presentación del empaque no cambia mucho de la versión salada que comúnmente podemos ver en el mercado, solo que este tiene esas tonalidades rosas y tiene un pequeño delfín como un guiño a que es algo dulce. Así mismo, en cuanto al costo, fue de 0.8 $, un poquito más alto que sus otras versiones; entiendo que sea porque es recientemente nuevo, así mismo porque hasta ahora solo lo he visto en ese local acá en la ciudad.
Now, upon opening this package, the aroma is very sugary; not like I expected, like the sweet doughnuts I mentioned, but rather a mix of bubblegum and cotton candy, which is too strong for me personally. However, it caught my sister's attention. They are smaller than the other version and have a bright pink coating, and in terms of serving size, they come in much larger.
Ahora bien, al destapar este paquete, el aroma es muy azucarado; no es como yo pensaba, al de las roscas dulces que había mencionado, sino que es una mezcla entre chicle y algodón de azúcar, personalmente muy fuerte para mí; sin embargo, para mi hermana llamó su atención. Son unos aros más pequeños que la otra versión y con una cobertura rosa fuerte y, en cuanto a porción, traen muchos más.
As for the flavor, it's a lot of sugar; it's neither smooth nor balanced, it's exactly like mixing strawberry caramel with cotton candy. For someone who loves sweets, it's a success because it combines the crunchiness of snack corn with sweetness, but for those who don't, it's an explosion of sugar that's hard to tolerate. However, I gave it a chance, trying a few until I gave the bag to my sister and my mother; one loved it, while the other didn't dislike it, but she had the same opinion as me.
En cuanto a sabor, es mucha azúcar; no es ni suave ni equilibrado, es justamente como mezclar un caramelo de fresa con un algodón de azúcar. Para alguien amante del dulce es un acierto porque combina la crocancia del maíz en snack con el dulce, pero para los que no, es una explosión de azúcar de la que no es muy de aguantar. Sin embargo, le di la oportunidad probando unos cuantos hasta que le di la bolsa a mi hermana y mi madre; a una le encantó, mientras a la otra no le desagradó, pero opinó igual que yo.
Moving on to what was the epicenter for me, I came across some snacks of which I had only tried the spicy version with cheese, but when I checked out the store and saw them, I almost immediately grabbed them. These are called "Croc-And Nachos," which can be mistaken for a Doritos imitation, since the cheese version is very similar in flavor. This time, I found two flavors that intrigued me; I got each one for $0.30, and one of them was the guacamole flavor.
Pasando a lo que fue el epicentro para mí, me encontré con unos snacks de los que solo había probado su versión picante con queso, pero que al revisar el local y verlos, casi que inmediatamente los tomé. Estos se llaman "Croc-And nachos", los cuales pueden ser tomados como una imitación de los Doritos, ya que su versión queso se parece mucho en sabor, y en esta oportunidad encontré dos sabores que me intrigaron; cada uno lo conseguí en 0,3 $, y uno de estos fue el sabor guacamole.
The packaging is very eye-catching; even my mother, upon seeing it, was very intrigued by the details until she saw what flavor it was. This one is metallic, but it has colors that make you want to pick it up, even if you don't know what it is. From the moment you open it, it has a very potent aroma that fills the room, but since it's guacamole, it's a mix of cilantro and what's known as artificial avocado flavor, which isn't as pleasant.
El empaque es muy llamativo a la vista; incluso mi madre, al verlos, estuvo muy intrigada viendo los detalles hasta que vio el sabor que era. Este es metálico, pero tiene los colores que hacen que, sin saber qué es, lo tomes a ver. Desde el momento en que lo destapas, tiene un aroma que es muy potente y que inunda el lugar, pero al ser guacamole, este es una mezcla de cilantro y lo que es el sabor de aguacate artificial no tan agradable.
Likewise, it's a nacho with a striking green color that's smaller than a conventional Dorito. Now, when you try it, it takes you a few minutes to analyze this flavor; it's a moment in which you detect the slightest hint of lemon, that very strong cilantro flavor, and the avocado, which is difficult to identify because it's artificial, as well as a hint of fat that's slightly present, but at the same time, it's something exotic that you try several times to be able to emphasize and process.
Así mismo, es un nacho con color potente verde que llama mucho la atención y que es más pequeño que un Dorito convencional. Ahora, pues, al momento de probar, te deja unos minutos analizando este sabor; es un rato en el que detectas el limón muy bajo, ese sabor a cilantro muy marcado y el aguacate que cuesta identificar por lo artificial, así como un toquesito de grasa algo presente, pero a su vez es algo exótico que llegas a probar varias veces para poder acentuar y procesar.
Aside from the aroma, this one can be eaten as a casual snack; it's not a bad flavor, but it's not addictive, so it's a good idea to share and discuss the potency of each element. However, it wasn't a problem for me to eat it, even carefully tasting each condiment on the nacho, so I liked it, but didn't want to buy it often. On the other hand, my sister and mom didn't, as they completely repelled it from the aroma.
Si dejamos de lado al aroma, este puede ser comido como algo de solo algunos ratos; no es un sabor malo, pero no llega a ser adictivo, por lo que puede ser para compartir y discutir sobre la potencia de cada elemento en este. Sin embargo, para mí no fue problema comerlo, incluso estar minuciosamente saboreando cada condimento en el nacho, por lo que me gustó, pero no para comprarlo seguido. Por otro lado, a mi hermana y mi mamá no, ya que desde el aroma lo rechazaron por completo.
Finally, I also tried what I could say has gone on my list of favorites from this same brand: their "Blue Flame" flavor, which is a spicy lemon flavor. These come in blue, which I found very striking, and upon opening it, the aroma was completely lemony.
Por último, de esta misma marca también probé lo que podría decir que se fue a mi lista de favoritos, que fue su presentación en "Blue Flame", los cuales son sabor limón y picante; estos vienen de color azul, cosa que me fue muy llamativa, y al abrirlo, el aroma fue totalmente a limón.
Trying them was literally reminiscent of the well-known Takis Blue, as they have the same flavor, but with a stronger lemon flavor, making them a bit sour, but quite addictive. Even the lemon helps to mask the spiciness, which isn't that spicy for me, but for my sister, it's powerfully spicy, and my mother found it addictive, although very sour, so opinions were somewhat mixed. However, for me, it was a complete success, as I bought it again and enjoyed it very much.
Probarlos fue literalmente recordar a los conocidos Takis Blue, pues es el mismo sabor, pero más intenso en limón, lo cual los hace un poco ácidos, pero llegan a ser adictivos. Incluso el limón disimula mucho el sabor picante que tiene, que para mí no es tanto, pero para mi hermana sí es un picor potente, y a mi madre le resultó adictivo, aunque muy ácido, por lo que fueron algo divididas las opiniones; sin embargo, para mí fue un total acierto, ya que lo volví a comprar y lo disfruté mucho.
I must say that of these three snacks, my favorite was obviously the last one, but it was still quite an experience trying them all, as it was like analyzing unexpected flavors and it was also very fun and rewarding for me, since I really like them.
Debo decir que de estos tres snacks, obviamente mi favorito fue el último, pero así mismo fue toda una experiencia probarlos todos, ya que fue como estar analizando sabores inesperados y así mismo fue algo muy divertido y gratificante para mí, puesto que me gusta mucho.
