Lol.
Ever since I saw that El Chelito ice cream shop offers affogato, this dessert has really caught my attention. There’s so much I don’t know about dishes from around the world, and learning a little more about them every day excites me—it opens up the opportunity to create a new dish, whether by following the original recipe or making my own version.
Affogato, which means “drowned” in Italian, is a combination of vanilla ice cream and espresso. I haven’t tried it yet, and even though I made it today—while sticking to the 21-day diet I’m on—I didn’t taste it either, even though it looked pretty tempting. It wasn’t easy at all! Lol.

To make it, I used homemade ice cream—vanilla ice cream with hints of salted caramel, which I also made at home. I don't have an espresso machine, so I used a moka pot. I made a strong coffee that I thought would contrast nicely with the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream.

I put the ice cream in the glass and made a hole in the center. I toasted some nuts; it’s worth noting that the original recipe calls for pistachios, but since I didn’t have any at home, I used what I had on hand and arranged them around the edge of the ice cream.

Then all that was left was to pour the piping-hot coffee into the center of the glass. That’s when the magic happens: the colors and flavors blend together, and the temperatures come together in the affogato.

My mom tried this affogato and really liked it. I'll have to treat myself to one when I'm done with my diet; I'm really curious about this unique dessert.
See you in another post!
