I had a wonderful time visiting Springleaf Nature Park yesterday, and I treated myself to a nice lunch afterwards. It felt like a little self-care moment — a relaxing walk around the park that left me feeling really hungry.
Originally, I planned to head to the city to grab a good bite, but I couldn’t wait any longer. So, I decided to stop by a nearby Cantonese-style family restaurant called Wong Chiew Restaurant, located along Upper Thomson–Sembawang Road. It’s right near the intersection, so it’s super easy to find — and just under 5 minutes from the park! Definitely a convenient food spot if you’re craving a hearty meal after a tiring activity.
At first glance, the place looks like a typical hawker-style joint, but the pricing is slightly higher. My meal cost SGD 12.20 — but honestly, I’d say it was worth every cent.
I had duck rice, meat dumplings, and a homemade iced lemon tea.
The duck rice was probably the most satisfying part of the meal — real value for money. I got a portion with the skin on, and there was a nice hint of crispiness to it. A little fatty, sure, but packed with flavor. It felt like a guilty pleasure after two weeks of healthy eating... and it was totally worth it. 😄
The dumplings were okay — a bit on the pricier side — but they’re steamed fresh upon order using a traditional steaming method. Watching the steamer in action was pretty awesome! I’m planning to post a TikTok video of it soon, so I’ll be sharing that in Snaps or Waves when it's ready. 😊
Since it was a warm Sunday, almost noon, I also got myself a refreshing homemade iced lemon tea. I liked that they added two slices of crushed lemon and even gave me a spoon in case I wanted to mash it more. Small details like that made the slightly pricier drink feel totally worth it. 😄
Overall, it was a satisfying meal. While the duck portion wasn’t huge, the dumplings made the meal more filling. It's on the pricier side, but I wouldn’t mind paying more next time just to get an extra serving of that delicious duck meat!
Wong Chiew Restaurant turned out to be a hidden gem that perfectly capped off my relaxing nature walk. Despite the slightly higher price, the quality and flavor made it well worth the treat. If you're ever near Springleaf Nature Park and craving something satisfying, this cozy spot is definitely worth a visit!
