It was @gabbiebi’s birthday when we went to Orchard. We were already pretty tired from walking around and looking for the library, so we decided to take a break and use that moment to celebrate Gabbie's special day.
Orchard Road has tons of shopping malls, and we’d been hopping from one mall to another when we passed by Ohayo Mama San. The place looked so cozy. It’s a high-tea and gastrobar, and we thought it's the perfect spot for a chill dinner after a long day of walking.
Usually, we take time choosing where and what to eat. But this time, since our feet were already begging for rest, we didn’t really mind what cuisine to go for, we just wanted to sit comfortably. The seats in Ohayo Mama San looked sooo inviting, and the overall vibe of the place was warm and relaxing.
Have you ever been so tired that you just walked into the first nice-looking restaurant you saw?
To our surprise, there was no queue when we arrived, but the place was already full. We took it as a good sign. The staff handed us the menu, and we immediately liked that it had pictures! We love menus with visuals because it’s easier to imagine what you’re about to eat. It just makes choosing so much easier.
Our table had a backdrop that said “no shortcut in life.” Kind of fitting for a birthday, I guess. Maybe it’s the universe’s way of reminding us that everything takes time. Usually, I take the seat with the nice background because Gabbie loves taking photos of me. But this time, I let her sit there. It’s her special day after all.

When it was time to order, we realized we both picked the same dish! We both ordered Katsu Curry Rice 😂 Normally, we’d order different meals so we could share and try more dishes, but since we were starving, neither of us wanted to change. So we just went with it.
We also ordered some fries and drinks. The food didn’t take long to arrive (thankfully, because we were so hungry!), though we wouldn’t have minded waiting because the seats were comfy, and the cozy vibe made it such a nice place to just sit and relax. The service was great, too!
Of course, before eating, we took a few photos first to remember the day we wandered around Orchard and ended up here. While looking through our pictures, I noticed there were a lot of sockets around, but no one seemed to be using them. Maybe because most people were there for dinner instead of working or studying.
The Katsu Curry Rice was really good, or maybe I was just that hungry? Either way, I finished everything even though the serving was huge! The fries were great too. It's not too salty and not oily, just the way I like them.
To wrap up our day, we ordered a slice of cake for Gabbie. What’s a birthday without cake, right? She made a wish and blew the candle. The cake tasted good! I'm glad we picked the right spot to celebrate Gabbie's birthday.
