My Jigawa experience

A letter to my employer:

So, I’ve never had to write my personal experience on any trip, ever. This is a first for me. Usually I would just visit a new place and most of the time it goes so well. Not on this trip though, there was a lot of mixed feelings and experiences. Let’s talk about that.

I love to travel so I’m always up for it, when this opportunity presented itself I was a bit excited, even though I was barely awake but still. I didn’t really have much time to settle down and pick out outfits like I usually do for any of my trips but it was okay, I just thought “ what the hell, it’s Jigawa it’s not that deep “ what I was really excited about was to see everything on set.

I hadn’t been to a movie set before much less one as elaborate and grand as this one and for that I am grateful.
The trip was longgg the road didn’t want to end I was pretty sure that day that I would hear “ in 600km turn right unto wudil road” in my sleep.

I loved that first day on set even though we ended up sleeping in the car it wasn’t so bad, I refer to moments like this you don’t prepare for as peak bonding moments. Because you don’t really forget them, it almost becomes a core memory.

The people on set were okay. A bit weird but nothing I haven’t experienced before.
I loved how everyone had to keep quiet so the shot would come out well, collective effort from so many different people. Handling people is one of the hardest things to do so, to get them to shut up for a few minutes? Beautiful. I liked the food too on that first day of set, it was okay. I enjoyed your performance, you’re a really good actress I’m glad to have experienced seeing you in your element doing what you love.

Now, this second trip? This was the real trip. I met different people, moved around the town, interacted with the locals which was a 2 out of 10 experience. They were mostly men and they had a common trait. They were rude, disrespectful and mysogonistic. There was only one man I remember being polite to me and it was the guy at the Mai shayi place close to Maiduguri restaurant.

Speaking of that place, I have only one word. OMO! My eyes have never seen such! I was left speechless every single day we went there. Except for the last day, I refused to be surprised or at least I tried not to be. The food?? God! The service? I can’t even understand how that place functions it’s crazy! But like I always, I was grateful to have eaten that day. I had food in my belly and a nice warm bed to sleep on. Thank you.

When we got to set for your last scene; that was the most stressful day ever! We didn’t have time to sleep, they picked us up early than usual which wasn’t new to me, they did it before. Kept us for hours just for us to end up shooting in the wee hours of the morning, it was crazy.

(This was the food on set though. It was so good I almost cried)

Your performance was phenomenal ( I’m not trying to glaze you I’m being serious) for more context , she played the role of a priestess and for thoes few moments she was performing, it looked so real I it looked like she was actually a priestess! I guess that’s what good acting is. Lol.

When we wrapped I almost cried because of how happy I was. Finally! I would go back home and sleep 😭 the ride back was short because obviously I slept through it. When I got home I slept for six hours and slept in the night again. It was good. Overall I enjoyed everything about the trip except the food.

Okay lastly, I’m not sure if this is supposed to be completely professional because you said you wanted to see how my brain works and this is it. Bare, on my note pad. This is how my mind works and how I write things in my head.

Bye! Stay curious!
