Wow, only one key! That's a first for me, and at first it felt like something was missing! Just one month later, and it's no longer so; it strangely feels kind of freeing. The only key I have in my possession is my car key. That is about to change as I will finally be moving into my new house. Transfer is set for tomorrow, and I will once again be carrying my own gate access and house keys.
How many keys did I have to keep safe when still living in my house? Way too many, as I shared with you when preparing for my big exodus! I have been winding down in more ways than one, and will never need so many keys ever again!
I was invited to a 60th birthday ladies-only lunch at the clubhouse of the estate I will be moving to. The birthday girl went to school with my brother, and our mothers were friends. To my utter joy, she and her hubby live a couple of doors away from me. That's in an estate of just over 700 households, so I won't feel so lost and overwhelmed; pure serendipity!
I met a couple of other ladies who also live there, and was seated next to a real spirited lady well into her 9th decade. She kept our side of the table in stitches with her stories! I've not laughed like that in a long time! She was one of the first people in Durban who ran a B&B from home, and just like me spoilt the guests, but on a grander scale. Her B&B was also featured in a magazine way back. She keeps a record of TV series she watches, gives them a star rating, and does a little write-up. She also used to write for magazines.
I heard a couple of estate scandal tidbits like the 'casserole ladies' who waltz to new widowers' doorstep offering a warm meal, and was warned about some of the married women who become protective of their husbands when a new woman moves in. I'd better be prepared for the nails to come out, for sure am in for some fun and games;)
I only plucked up the courage to take a photo of the beautifully presented dessert of my new friend and me, as the ice was broken by that time! Passionfruit Lemon Cheesecake with cream, and the other with ice cream.
The loo was empty, so I quickly took a shot before someone walked in.
We stopped outside my new apartment and took a peek inside. It was chilly and started drizzling, so I only took a quick pic before rushing back to the car.
My property transfer is set to go through tomorrow, so the booking of movers was arranged for next week, and filling out a wad of forms took up some time for today. Bonus was that fibre internet at a low cost forms part of the levies.
It is much colder up here, but I'm getting to know some of the people, and their warm hearts for sure make up for the ice-cold winds!
