During a business trip, I stayed at a hotel in an area known for having lots of great food. One place in particular always had a long line outside, and I thought to myself, "That’s gotta be one of those famous spots everyone talks about". One day, I had a bit of free time and decided to try my luck. I told myself that if the line was too long, I’d just skip it. But even though there were quite a few people waiting outside, I ended up getting in really quickly. Lucky me!
The inside of the restaurant was pretty small; there is just a few tightly packed tables and chairs. It was clear they were trying to make the most of the limited space. Still, the place was clean, and everything was well-organized. Ordering was self-service, with the menu posted on the wall. Besides their signature braised pork rice, they also had classic sides like marinated eggs, bamboo shoots, tofu, and pork rib soup. Everything looked and smelled amazing. I ended up ordering the braised pork rice, a fish ball soup, and a plate of pig tendon. These are all pretty classic Taiwanese dishes, and I figured the pig tendon would be full of collagen.
When the food arrived, the braised pork rice was steaming hot and smelled incredible. The pork had a rich, dark color—glossy but not greasy. The minced pork was tender and super flavorful. I chose the spicy version to try something different, and it had a nice kick to it. The pig tendon was soft, bouncy, and kind of unique in texture. I’d say it was pretty tasty. The fish ball soup was nothing special, but it hit the spot. Personally, I just feel like you need soup with your meal to feel full, especially when there’s still stuff to do in the afternoon. But honestly, the braised pork rice was the star of the show.
Even though the place was busy, the food came out quickly. The staff was fast, efficient, and super friendly. For a restaurant that’s been recommended by the Michelin Bib Gourmand, the prices were really reasonable—definitely high value for money. No wonder there’s always a line outside. They even had the Michelin recommendation framed on the wall. And honestly, they deserve it.
