Salty or Sugary? A Taste of Comfort and Memories

Like the popular saying goes, food is the way to a man's heart and we all tend to have a different food that we like so much in a way that is has turned into our favourite meal.

To me, every food has its impact and food is not just anything we eat, it more than that. Food brings comfort, memories, emotions and it is a culture served on a plate, if you can phantom what that means. I have been asked the question before in the past by friends, family members and different people if I enjoy salty or sugary foods. Well, I don't usually give a direct answer, not because I do not know what to say but because both foods has its uniqueness.

I can be a salty food person and at the same time, I can be a sugary food person. It all depends on the food that I am craving for at that moment.

Me being a salty food type of person, just give me a freshly prepared white rice with beans, garnished with some fresh salad, fried soft plantain and a bowl of fried chicken with a cold Hollandia yogurt to step it down, and you have gotten a part of my heart. There is something always about salty and savory foods that always feels tantalising. What I just said always reminds me of every Sunday evening when my mum is preparing her special delicacy with that aroma from her kitchen that always calls the attention of everyone to the dinning table no matter how tired you might have been.

Do not get it twisted, sugary foods also have their special place anyday anytime. There is this special joy when you bite into a freshly prepared fluffy pancake with a bit of honey on top and stepping it down with a cold zobo or tigernut drink after a very long day under the Nigerian sun or taking it as your lunch. Sweetness always comes with jubilation especially during our celebrations like weddings, convictions party and during birthdays.

But for me, salty food will always come ahead of it is more refreshing and it is what I consumed most times unlike the sugary food that is not that frequent. Salty food has a deeper connection and resilience to my culture and background. In a world that is filled with ups and downs, a pot of well prepared and garnished vegetable soup with Amala reminds me that something things can still be relied upon m

Whether you belong to the fanbase of sugary food or salty food, one thing that I know for sure is that, food speaks a language that we all can relate with.

So my fellow Hivers and readers, which do you prefer and what dish bring brings out that memory of life?
