Satay, Es Campur, and a Slice of Cake

in Hive Food2 days ago

Hi bloggers and food lovers, today I’m going to share my food hunting from last month—exploring delicious eats at several new spots, ranging from hearty meals to sweet, mood-boosting desserts. This time, I’ll share my food-hunting experience in the city of Binjai, where I sampled the latest trends, from traditional dishes to Korean cuisine. I went to a food stall in the market called Es Campur Kalimantan; as the name suggests, they specialize in Es Campur as their main offering.

Es Campur

Es Campur is a traditional drink made with shaved ice, red beans, cincau, cendol, and tapai, mixed with coconut milk and melted palm sugar. The place is small, and they only serve Es Campur, Es Cendol, and satay. It tasted incredibly refreshing in the hot weather; the shaved ice mixed with coconut milk and toppings gave the drink a rich texture and flavor, yet everything balanced perfectly when it hit my tongue.

Satay

Peanut sauce satay was another dish my friend and I chose. Several skewers of beef, grilled with spices over charcoal, are served on a plate with lontong, then drizzled with a savory and spicy peanut sauce, topped with fragrant fried shallots. The meat is juicy, and the lontong is chewy—a classic combination that pairs perfectly.

After stopping by the es campur shop in the afternoon, we headed to a café called Dough Label, a trendy spot that offers mostly beautiful sweet treats from brownies, cake slices, and croissants to ice cream—as well as a few savory options like pasta and ramen.

At that time, my friends and I ordered the Chocolate Delight and Korean Ramen.

Chocolate Delight

Full of chocolate, the texture is more like a soft and creamy chocolate mousse. It’s sweet—maybe a bit too sweet—even though there’s a dark chocolate filling in the middle layer. But since we weren’t eating it alone, it was still delicious.

Korean Ramyeon

Korean instant noodles served with various toppings, including fresh and tangy kimchi, sausage, one egg, and cheese on top. It tastes as good as it looks—savory and spicy, with an aroma that’s incredibly appetizing.

Strawberry Ade

The artistan drink here is Strawberry Ade, a strawberry juice mixed with soda water and topped with basil seeds and nata de coco. This drink is tart, sweet, and refreshing.
