Today I would like to share Another Indian recipe Matar ka Nimona* it is North Indian Recipe, it is a gravy like dish prepared with fresh green peas, onions, tomatoes and spices. I have also added potatoes but they are optional. It is famous dish belongs to Uttar Pradesh state of India, even it is one of my favourite recipe of winters. It is prepared with fresh Green peas, which is harvested in Winters, for better and delicious taste. you can enjoy this recipe with Indian bread - Roti or paratha, also with the stream rice. Try this recipe, 'm sure you gonna like it for sure.

Ingredients📃


• 2 cup Green peas(Hari matar).
• 2 Potatoes, Diced.
• 1 tbsp clarified butter(Ghee).
• 1/2 tbsp cumin Seeds.
• Pinch asafoetida (Hing).
• 1 onion, roughly chopped.
• 2 Inch of Ginger.
• 6-7 Cloves of Garlic.
• 2 Green chilli.
• 1 tomato,roughly chopped.
• 1 tbsp of Turmeric powder.
• 1 tbsp of Red Chilli Powder.
• 2 tbsp of Coriander Powder.
• 1/2 tbsp of Garam masala.

Wash the potatoes thoroughly to remove dirt. After peeling, cut them into cubes as shown in the picture. Keep the potatoes in water after cutting them; otherwise, they will turn black in colour. Keep it aside.

In the grinder, add the roughly chopped tomato, make a smooth paste. Keep it Aside.

In a same grinder, put Roughly chopped onion, garlic and ginger, Blend to a smooth paste without adding any water. Remove the onion paste and keep it aside.

In the same grinder jar, add matar (green peas), Green Chilli and Coriander leaves. Grind to a coarse paste. Don't add any water while grinding. Keep aside.

In a kadai/pan, Heat the mustard Oil or any Cooking oil of your Choice. Once your oil get hot, add the diced potatoes, fry it at medium flame. So that your het crispy from outside and soft from inside.

Flip them to another cut side.

Fry it untill I get golden brown in a colour. Keep it aside.

Now take a pressure cooker even you can use the pan/kadai too.

Heat the oil, add the cumim seeds and asafoetida, Let it crackle and splutter.

Now add the ground onion paste, begin to saute stirring often. Saute till you see oil releasing from the sides and the paste becomes lumpy and starts gathering around itself.

Now Add the tomato puree and then lower the flame, add the kashmiri Red Chilli powder, Coriander powder and turmeric powder. Stir & Mix it well.

Now add the coarsely ground fresh peas. Mix Well with the onion-tomato masala gravy.

Now add the fried potatoes and garam masala powder. Mix it well.

Add the 1 cup of water. Cover the cooker with a lid and simmer till the green peas are cooked. Cooked it medium flame, in between stir the gravy to avoid sticking from the bottom.

Add the Garam Masala. Serve matar ka nimona with indian bread like rotis, Paratha and even can be paired it with steamed rice.

Wow, looks so good! I never had green pea gravy. It is not a common dish here where I am from. 😀 I will order this dish whenever I dine in at an Indian restaurant. 😀
