Hello everyone! A few days ago I was telling you that in Egypt we tried a dish that we liked and ate a lot, so my husband and I decided to prepare it at home too when we came back, the good thing is that the dishes there had the names so we recorded it and at home we looked for the recipe on the internet to guide us, I am talking about Dal Tadka which is nothing more than a dish of split lentils with lots of spices and a delicious and unique flavor that makes my mouth water just by looking at the pictures, this is an Indian dish and was the reason why we visited for the first time the Indian supermarket in Katowice, to buy some of the ingredients we needed to prepare it and as it was very good I could not help but share the recipe with you.
Now, the first step was to let the lentils soak for a few minutes which of course will help to reduce the cooking time, meanwhile we are going to leave ready some of the ingredients that we will use as a chopped onion, ginger, garlic, serrano chili, curcuma, curry, garam masala and cilantro, all to taste.
Next we are going to fry the onion in a skillet over medium heat until it is golden brown, then we are going to add the ginger, the crushed garlic and the serrano chili and fry for a few more minutes, at this point we can drain the lentils and we are also going to add to the skillet all the ground spices, stir for a few seconds and then we are going to add water.
Once we add the water, stir again and now we are going to add our lentils, salt and pepper to taste and let cook over medium heat and partially covered for about 30 minutes or until the lentils are soft.
Now we are going to add chopped tomatoes, we used fresh tomatoes the first time and it took longer to cook, today we prepared the recipe again and used canned chopped tomatoes and it was very fast, maybe only about 5 minutes we let it cook with these and then added chopped cilantro.
Dal Tadka is almost ready but first we are going to heat some oil in a small pan, then add some mustard seeds, cumin seeds and red chili flakes and cook for a couple of seconds but do not let it burn. Then we add this in our pan, stir and it is really delicious and ready to serve.
We ate this dish with rice and Naan bread that my husband prepared and it was just as delicious as the lentils. If you like I can upload the recipe later, in the meantime I leave you to enjoy the photos of this delicious dish, without a doubt it was a unique combination.
