While we were cleaning, something funny happened a cute baby cow walked toward our house! It looked so adorable with its big eyes and soft brown fur. I wanted to let it come closer, but I stopped it because it might make a mess. Still, I couldn’t resist, so I took some pictures and gently touched its head. The baby cow was so calm and friendly! That little moment made my morning even brighter.
After an hour, we heard footsteps outside it was my father coming home from the sea! We all ran to meet him because we were so excited. We knew that he would bring a lot of seafood, and we were right! He caught fish, mussels, crabs, oysters, and rabbitfish (danggit). The smell of the sea filled our kitchen as he showed us his fresh catch. It was like a little treasure from the ocean!
I helped my father in the dirty kitchen. I cooked the mussels and crabs with lemongrass and kamunggay leaves. The soup smelled so good! It had that fresh, warm aroma that made us hungry right away. When I tasted the soup, it was so delicious warm, sweet, and full of flavor from the sea.
Next, I fried the danggit (rabbitfish) until it was crispy and golden brown. It’s my favorite when eaten with spicy vinegar the perfect match! While cooking, I couldn’t stop smiling because the food looked so yummy.
Then I saw the oysters my father brought. There were only a few, but I was so happy because I had been craving them since last month. Finally, my craving was satisfied!
I also prepared a bowl of seafood for my grandmother because she loves it so much. I know that eating seafood makes her happy and helps her stay strong. When I gave it to her, she smiled and said, “Thank you, apo.” That simple moment made me feel proud and thankful.
After all the cooking, we set the food on the table the mussel soup, fried danggit, oysters, and crabs. Everything looked perfect! We all sat down together my father, mother, siblings, and I. We prayed before eating, thanking God for the blessings of the sea.
The first sip of the soup was amazing! Everyone was smiling, laughing, and enjoying the meal. My father told stories about his trip to the sea how he rowed the boat in the dark, how the waves were calm, and how he caught the big crab. I listened closely, feeling proud of him. After eating, we cleaned up together and rested outside, watching the bright sun and the green trees around us. It was such a peaceful and happy morning.
I felt thankful for my family, for the sea, and for the food that brought us together.
