Late-night Venezuelan Hot Dog

In Venezuela, fast food is all about quantity. Yes, we also like quality, but once you see the hot dogs, you will understand why I said the first thing.

I really don't know how this trend of eating with a lot of toppings started. But I can argue it has to do with ourselves. We are extra. There's something about Venezuelan flavor that has to do with going the extra mile on everything. So, our hot dogs are kind of like Chicago style. However, those have a lot more veggies on them. It is said they run it through a garden.

Let me explain the toppings on the hot dogs in the photos. But first, I came back from the first night Las Noches de Antaño and since it was late, I was dropped off at this place named La Sazón. I usually eat burgers there. That night I wanted something quicker. So hot dogs were my choice. You have the bun, the sausage, then, the rain of toppings begins. You have a salad made of shredded cabbage and carrots for the sweet element, fries, and then it is topped off with shredded white cheese. It is queso llanero this is a semihard cheese that is more of the savory side. Under the cheese, you have the dressings, ketchup, mayo and mustard. Nonetheless, you can add some extra others bacon, corn and garlic sauces.

The challenge with these things is not dropping everything on the ground. As you can see, there's no thought into making these hot dogs portable. It is something you need to eat with a plate to catch all the things that are going to drop while you gobble it. There's no elegant way to eat such a treat. And that's the whole point. I think the idea behind all the toppings is to make anyone drop they facade and let them eat as if they had no manners.

As for flavor, it is packed with it. However, it is not something I eat regularly. You can see this isn't healthy at all. But, lo, it is such a good late night food to quench a craving!
