I walked into Al Sana Indian-Muslim Restaurant last night with one clear craving: curry. When I want something properly tasty and flavorsome, Indian curry is always the move... the aroma alone feels exciting. I wasn’t in the mood for anything too heavy, so I went straight for the Fish Curry meal set, my “feel-good but still light” choice.
The set is a neat combination on a plate: a fillet of fried fish, a mound of white rice, a generous scoop of lady’s finger (okra) cooked with spices, and a crispy papadam on the side. The star, though, arrives in a small bowl... tangy curry sauce, steaming and reddish-brown, with that inviting sour-savory scent that makes you want to drizzle it over everything.
First bite, first grin. The curry leans pleasantly tangy, think tamarind taste, balanced by a savory depth from the spices. It’s the perfect match for seafood... the sour notes seem to lift the fish so each forkful tastes clean and lively rather than heavy. The fish itself is fried with a light crust and a subtle hint of chili-turmeric, flaky inside and not oily at all. I kept alternating between dunking the fish directly into the curry and spooning sauce over rice... both ways were good, so I ended up switching back and forth until the bowl was almost empty.
Confession: I’m a papadam smasher. I love cracking it over hot rice so the shards add a crisp, salty crunch to every bite. That texture game is real... crunchy papadam, soft rice, saucy curry, and tender fish, it’s a combo that keeps you going long after you thought you were done. The lady’s finger was another highlight. Cooked just right, seeds popping a little, edges coated in spices... it has herbs flavor and comforting, the kind of side dish that feels good for digestion and good for the soul. It’s been a while since I had this version, and I happily polished it off.
Ambience-wise, Al Sana is bright and welcoming. There’s a shiny menu board with lots of photos, a tidy counter where you can watch orders being assembled, and comfy seating under a ceiling lined with wood slats and playful curvy lights. The vibe is casual but modern, the kind of space where a quick meal can still feel like a treat. Service was brisk and friendly, my set arrived fast, hot, and neatly plated.
Value check... the Fish Curry set cost just SGD 6.50. For fish, rice, vegetable, papadam, and a full bowl of curry, that’s a win for me. It satisfied the curry craving, which is exactly what I wanted for a weekday dinner. I walked out feeling pleasantly full, a little taste of the tangy taste of the curry, and very content.
Overall: a comforting, tangy-savory plate that hits all the right notes... flavor, texture, and value. If you’re team curry and want something lighter than mutton or chicken, this fish set is an easy recommendation. I’ll be back soon to explore more from the menu, maybe a mutton curry on a hungrier day, or a prata pairing for extra crunch... but that tangy fish curry is already calling my name again.
