Choosing Healthy on a Rainy Day

in #food3 days ago

Yesterday’s heavy rain actually gave me the perfect excuse to have the kind of lunch that I always say I want more of... something healthy, comforting, and still satisfying. When food becomes part of a lifestyle, I really believe it should not just taste good, but also do something good for the body. Of course, that is not always easy when there are so many tempting options everywhere LOL. I think it takes a bit of discipline, or at least a clear goal, to keep choosing food that feels nourishing. The good thing is that healthy choices are actually out there, so I cannot really give myself too many excuses. Sometimes, all I need is a little push or the right mood to make that choice. And yesterday, the rainy weather became that motivation for me.

Since it was raining heavily, a warm bowl of soup immediately sounded like the right answer. So for lunch, I went to a soup stall and got myself a bowl of Pork Ribs with ABC soup. This is a very common soup choice, but honestly, it is also one of the best when it comes to both taste and health benefits. Some dishes do not need to be fancy to feel special, and this is one of them.

ABC soup has always been one of my favorite food choices. Maybe it is because it feels so simple and familiar, but at the same time, it always manages to be deeply comforting. There is just something about a clear, naturally sweet broth filled with wholesome ingredients that feels very easy to appreciate, especially on a rainy day. It is the kind of meal that does not overwhelm you, yet still leaves you feeling full and cared for.

The bowl I had came with pork ribs, carrots, potato, and corn, along with the usual dried red dates and goji berries. Even though it sounds like a humble combination, every ingredient plays its part so well. The pork ribs gave the soup richness and depth, while the vegetables added sweetness and body to the broth. The corn in particular stood out visually and also made the soup feel even more hearty. And of course, having a bowl of rice on the side made the whole meal even more complete.

What I really want to highlight is the effect of the goji berries in the soup. They may look like such a small ingredient, but they made a noticeable difference in the overall flavor. They added that gentle sweetness that made each spoonful more enjoyable. For me, whenever I scooped up a little broth together with some goji berries, it made me even more excited to slurp more of the soup and keep munching on the ingredients too. It is funny how such a tiny ingredient can make a simple bowl feel more special.

I also liked how clean and light the broth tasted. It was not oily or too heavy, which made it feel very suitable for lunch. At the same time, it still had enough flavor to feel satisfying. That balance is something I always appreciate in soup-based meals. It felt nourishing without being boring, and filling without making me feel weighed down afterwards.

The pork ribs themselves were enjoyable too. They added substance to the meal and made it feel more than just a bowl of vegetables in broth. Together with the soft carrots, potatoes, sweet corn, and those little bursts of sweetness from the berries and dates, the meal felt very complete in its own simple way.

Overall, this rainy day lunch reminded me that healthy food does not have to feel like a sacrifice. Sometimes, it can be exactly the thing you are craving. A warm bowl of Pork Ribs with ABC soup was all I needed to make lunch feel comforting, wholesome, and satisfying at the same time. It may be a common soup, but for me, it remains one of the best.

Bon appétit.
