A Hearty Biryani Dinner After My Ride to Sembawang Park

in #food11 hours ago

Last Saturday, after cycling all the way to Sembawang Park, I made my way to the Admiralty area for dinner. By that time, I was already feeling very exhausted from the ride, so I knew I wanted something heavy, satisfying, and worth looking forward to after all that effort. Since it was also a Saturday night, I told myself this was the perfect excuse to go for a more indulgent dinner LOL. That was when I ended up at Broadway Food Centre and luckily found a biryani stall waiting for me.

Honestly, biryani is one of those meals that rarely fails when it comes to satisfaction. It is flavorful, filling, and has that kind of richness that feels extra rewarding after a tiring day. So the moment I saw it as an option, I did not hesitate at all. I was given a choice between curry chicken and the fried chicken version, and because it was the weekend, I decided to go for the sinful version 😁. Sometimes you just have to listen to your cravings, especially after a long cycling trip.

When my plate arrived, I was genuinely surprised by how generous the serving was. For only SGD 7.00, the amount of basmati rice alone already looked like a full meal for two lighter eaters. Even though I came in very hungry, I honestly had a moment where I looked at the portion and thought, “Wait… can I actually finish this?” But of course, after all that cycling, I felt like I had already earned this dinner anyway, so I was more than ready to dig in.

The rice was fluffy and aromatic, with that beautiful biryani color that already makes the dish look appetizing before you even take the first bite. It came with a papadam on top, some cucumber and onion on the side, a flavored egg, and of course the highlight of the plate, the fried chicken. The chicken piece was also quite big, and I was given the breast part, which for me felt like a slightly better choice compared to the fattier cuts. I mean, the whole meal is not exactly healthy, but if there is a chance to go for the option with a little less guilt while still enjoying a hearty dinner, then I will take it for sure LOL.

What I noticed about the chicken was that it seemed to have been fried earlier and then refried to reheat before serving. Some people may not like that, but in this case, I actually did not mind because it still came out hot and crispy enough for me to enjoy. The outside had that deep red, well-seasoned coating, while the inside still remained meaty and satisfying. It paired really well with the basmati rice, especially once the curry came into play.

The staff also doused part of the rice with curry, and I really liked that touch. It gave the biryani even more flavor and added the extra moisture and richness that made the whole plate feel more complete. The curry was not overwhelmingly spicy, which suited me just fine. It had enough heat to keep the meal exciting, but it did not overpower the rest of the flavors. For me, it was just the right level. Even the egg seemed to have been flavored, maybe boiled together with curry or spices, because it had more taste than a usual plain boiled egg.

Overall, this meal was exactly what I needed after a tiring cycling session. It was generous, flavorful, filling, and very comforting in that heavy-dinner kind of way. I came in exhausted and craving something substantial, and this biryani definitely delivered. By the time I finished eating, I actually felt energized again and weirdly ready for another round of cycling once more LOL.

Bon appétit!
