“Mmmmm . . . donuts!”
- Homer Simpson
As much as possible, I try to rest on Saturdays, mentally and physically, and allow myself to eat a few comfort foods in which I wouldn’t ordinarily indulge.
Well, today my workweek weary brain was crying out for a plain Dunkin’ glazed donut and a glass of cold whole milk. If I’m honest, I had been thinking about it for days so yes, your honor, this was donut aforethought. I acted with intent, and it was worth it!
But why? Why does this simple ring of fried dough that is so maligned by dieticians and nutritionists for being bad for our bodies make our brains light up from a massive dopamine hit? I honestly have no idea but it’s truth. The best I can hope for is to keep it to one (or two) every so often and not be hittin’ the Dunkin’ on the regular. Wish me luck. 🍩
