Downtown Historic District New Bedford MA
Good Morning, I hope your weekend is starting well and you have fun things planned.
Not that I do to be honest, may be a nice day so hopefully i can get out for a photowalk, and do some things around the house, other than that will be doing some building on my funwhole kits and watching TV.
For todays post I decided to share a few shots from a walk through the Historic Downtown District of New Bedford.
I love this area, and often will drive and park at the port and then decide whether to walk thepiers of the port and head up to the historic district.
and you may wonder why I dont park in the historic district, a couple of reasons, drivign over the cobblestone streets makes the car shake rattle and roll, and secondly, I have been advised by a few people to be careful in this area at night, and I guess even though its technically early morning when I am walking there.
Now I have never had any issues there, I have sene in the distaance a couple of times, shall I sad odd looking people making a lot of noise and yelling and i make a point to stay away from them, I haved been approached by a couple of people askign for money, but in a nice way, I mostly will not give money, but I have said I have no cash, but if you will wait a few minutes I will pop to the Dunkin Donuts a couple of blocks away and can get you a drink.
If they say no they need money and often with some reason why whether true or not, I do not give cash as I know sadly often that is used for drugs or booze and I do not want to feed that habit.
But a few times people have appreciated the offer of a drink, so I head to Dunking get then a drink and a sandwich or somehting and drop it off to them and have found them to be truly appreciative and werent expecting me to come back with them
OK as I often do I have waffled on inthe intro so lets get to the photos on this walk
I forget the history of this building, but it used to have an Italian restaurant Carmines in it, we went to it once with family for a buffet style meal, and i have to admit i was not that impressed, although they used to get great reviews for there menu items
It has since closed I believe and is now somehtign else but I am not sure what

Next up another cool old building, and again a restaurant in it the Freestone Grill, it has been there for years,in 2022 it was opened again with new Owners, but didnt last that long, in 2024, just a few days after they put up the new sign at the time, they announced they were closing, their manager and head Chef both quit without notice and and apprently that was the last straw for the owners who shut it done, or at least thats what I heard online at the time.

This is a little park in the area, under that walkway I have seen people sleeping, I so feel for people who need to sleep outdoors being homeless for whatever reason is sad to see I have a couple of times picked up a few drinks and sandwiches, between 2 and 5 depenindign how many people i see there, and drop them off quietly without waking them
