In the last few days we have received a few inches of rain. It was much needed and the fields are bouncing back now. We baled last month and the grass has not grown much due to little rain for around four weeks. But now we are catching back up and getting out of the drought. The fields have brightened up with a lush green color, and everything looks like its coming back well.
A few weeks ago a family of six geese started hanging out by my pond. There are four babies and two adults. Though the babies already lost their grey by the time they showed up. For a few weeks they could not fly, but now they can.
There are some bare spots in the grass due to the drought, but I think they will come back over time. Otherwise I may need to reseed some areas. But we shall see, I will wait to see how well everything comes back on its own first.
Getting rain is much appreciated, we do not need to water our outdoor plants. Glad we moved everything out of the green house and now the rains can do the work.
Even the trees in the forest were showing stress. They were starting to show their fall colors even though its months early. Hopefully the recent rains have given them a break from the heat and stress of low rainfall. But now everything is looking very green and lush again, so I think they have appreciated the rainfall.
The weeds have been staying down which is nice for around my solar panels, but soon I will need to go out there with the weed whacker and cut them back so they do not block the panels. My mower wont fit back there, I only have a riding mower so maybe I should look into getting a push mower as well.
Looks like there is more rain in the forecast so looking forward to getting weekly rains or even more frequently. That is more of what I am used to living in the region. Usually we get rains a few times a week, so when we were getting it once a month its not normal for the area.
The geese spend their time between the fields and the pond. I see them diving in the water and practice flying together.
I think they live in the brush near by, but most of their time is spent near this pond. Not sure how much longer they will stick around, now the babies can fly I think they are going to leave soon.
While I was getting some video outside, the geese walked around the corner by me and did not seem to mind my presence. They are getting quite used to us, we want to try to give them peas at some point. But its hard to get closer than 20 feet from them at any time. But that is the hope one day, to hand feed them. That would be cool.
